Applying for a Canadian visitor visa, study permit, or work permit from Egypt? Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) states that, unless it tells you otherwise, all supporting documents must be in English or French. Any document in Arabic has to be submitted with a translation and specific supporting items. Getting this right from the start helps you avoid requests for additional documents and delays.

Galenus For Certified Translation & Businessmen Services has translated official Egyptian documents since 2014. We translate your documents into English, provide the translator affidavit IRCC asks for, keep every stamp and signature, and spell names exactly as they appear in your passport.

This page covers temporary visas: visitor, study, and work. If you are preparing a permanent residence or immigration file, see our Arabic page on immigration document translation for Canada and Australia.

Documents Egyptian applicants usually translate

Your exact checklist appears in your IRCC account and depends on the visa type. The documents we translate most often for Canada visa files are:

  • Bank statements and balance certificates
  • Employment letters, salary statements, and social insurance records
  • Commercial registers and tax cards for business owners
  • Birth and marriage certificates to prove family relationships
  • Degree certificates and transcripts for study permits
  • Police clearance (criminal record) certificates when requested
  • Property deeds and other proof of ties to Egypt

For certificates in particular, see our certified translation of certificates service.

What IRCC requires for translated documents

English or French only

Translations must be into English or French, Canada’s official languages. Most applicants from Egypt choose English, and our certified Arabic to English translation service is built for exactly this.

What to submit with the translation

IRCC’s help centre explains that a document that is not in English or French must be sent with:

  • the English or French translation,
  • an affidavit from the person who completed the translation, if they are not a certified translator in Canada, and
  • a certified photocopy of the original document.

The affidavit is a sworn statement by the translator, made before a person authorized to administer oaths in the country where the translation is done, confirming that the translation is accurate. Galenus provides this translator affidavit with the translation. For the certified copy of the original, follow the instructions for your application.

Who cannot translate your documents

IRCC does not accept translations done by the applicant or by members of the applicant’s family, such as parents, spouse, siblings, children, or close relatives. An independent translation office avoids this problem.

Step by step

  1. Check the document checklist for your visa type in your IRCC account.
  2. Obtain recent originals from the issuing authorities.
  3. Send us clear scans so we can send you a quote and confirm the delivery time.
  4. We translate into English and run a second review before delivery.
  5. We attach the translator affidavit to your translation and remind you of IRCC’s certified copy requirement.
  6. Upload the translation with a copy of the original to your account, then attend biometrics at the visa application centre in Cairo when instructed.

FAQ: Canada visa translation in Egypt

Do I submit my documents at the Canadian Embassy in Cairo?

Most visa applications are submitted online through IRCC. Applicants are then usually asked to give biometrics at the visa application centre in Cairo.

Can I translate my own documents if my English is good?

No. IRCC does not accept translations made by the applicant or by family members.

Does a bank statement issued in English need translation?

No. If your bank issues the statement in English, it can be submitted as is. Arabic statements need a full translation.

Do visa documents need Egyptian MFA legalization?

IRCC’s general guidance does not require it for every application, but it may be requested in specific cases. Follow any instruction letter in your account, or ask us about your file. If you need it, we can handle Egyptian MFA authentication as an extra service.

Do you provide the translator affidavit?

Yes. Galenus provides the translator affidavit with the translation, as IRCC requires when the translator is not certified in Canada.

Is a scanned translation enough?

Since applications are online, you upload scans of the translation. Keep the paper version in case IRCC asks for it later.
